Which vehicle fits your group?
The first question we're asked, answered honestly — luggage counts as much as people:
Up to 6 passengers — executive minivan (Toyota Hiace / Hyundai H1 class): the family-and-luggage workhorse, ~6 suitcases
7–10 passengers — high-roof minibus: standing headroom at the door, 8–10 cases — the most-booked size
11–15 passengers — maxi minibus: full crews, wedding parties, sports teams, 12+ cases
16–22 passengers — King Long mini-coach for big parties and events
23–33 passengers — full tour bus with professional driver — see our charter bus hire
Not sure? Give us headcount + luggage + any bulky kit (golf bags, surfboards, prams) and we'll size it — upgrading you to a larger vehicle at no charge if ours is free.
One vehicle, one price — what minibus hire covers
Airport transfers by minibus — the whole group and every bag in one vehicle from SSR to your hotel, from ~Rs 3,500 (~€70) depending on distance, all-inclusive (tolls, fuel, waiting, flight tracking, name board). For the dedicated page, see minivan & minibus airport transfers — and for groups of 8+, group airport transfers.
Full-day and half-day hire — the minibus and driver at your disposal: your itinerary, your stops, your pace, from Rs 5,500. Full rates, use cases and how it works: see our minibus day hire page. Want a guided sightseeing day instead? That's our private group tours.
Weddings & events — guest shuttles between hotel, venue and reception, timed to your run sheet.
Corporate & MICE — conference shuttles, incentive groups, roadshows; one invoice, one coordinator.
Cruise groups — terminal pickups and port-day group transport, planned backwards from all-aboard — see cruise group transport.
Special cargo welcome — golf bags (dedicated golf-group transfers), surfboards, dive kit, wheelchairs. Tell us when booking; we plan the space.
Why groups hire the minibus instead of three taxis
The maths is the argument. Three airport taxis for ten people costs more than one minibus — and you travel separately, arrive separately, and negotiate three fares. One minibus is one flat rate split ten ways, everyone together, one driver accountable to you by name.
Per vehicle, not per head — the cost per person falls as your group grows
Everyone together — no splitting the family across cars, no taxi racing
Fixed before you travel — the quote includes fuel, tolls, taxes and driver; the quote is the bill
A driver, not just a vehicle — a licensed local who knows the roads, doubles as an informal guide, and flexes the plan when you fancy a photo stop
Child seats free — every seat, every child, across the whole vehicle

Group transport in honest numbers
7–33 — Seats across our fleet, sized to your group in one message
~Rs 3,500 (~€70) — Where minibus airport transfers start, per vehicle all-inclusive
Rs 5,500 / 7,500 — Half-day and full-day hire starting points, driver and fuel included
÷ 10 — What happens to the per-person cost when ten of you share one flat rate
0 — Self-drive vehicles here: every hire includes a licensed professional driver
PSV-licensed — Our vehicles operate under Mauritius's public service vehicle licensing — insured for carrying you, not just registered
The honest takeaway: in Mauritius, a minibus with a driver is the cheapest luxury there is — chauffeured travel that, split across a real group, costs less per head than the taxi rank. The only mistake groups make is booking too late in high season, when the right-sized vehicles go first.

Case study
A golf group of nine, four hotels' worth of tee times, one minibus
Guests: nine golfers from the UK · Brief: airport pickup with nine golf bags, then course runs all week — Heritage, Mont Choisy, Ile aux Cerfs
Nine people and nine golf bags is three taxis' worth of negotiation, every single morning. We met them at SSR with a maxi minibus — bags swallowed in one load — then ran the week on a simple standing plan: tee-time drop-offs, 19th-hole pickups, one flat daily rate agreed upfront. The driver learned their rhythm by day two and had the cool box restocked by day three.
9 golfers + 9 bags — One vehicle, one load, zero taxi negotiations 5 course days — One standing daily rate, agreed before the trip ÷ 9 — The per-head cost that made the minibus cheaper than any alternative Day 3 — When the driver started restocking the cool box unasked

The "cheap" option for groups in Mauritius is the expensive one
Groups default to what feels cheap: a couple of rank taxis, or a self-drive rental van. Run the numbers and both lose. Multiple taxis multiply the fare, the negotiation and the chance someone's car takes the scenic route. A self-drive van adds fuel, insurance excess, unfamiliar left-hand roads, a designated driver who doesn't get to enjoy the rum tasting — and nobody local when plans wobble.
For one traveller, a chauffeured vehicle is a luxury. For ten travellers, it's arithmetic — the flat rate divided by the group beats every alternative in Mauritius.
One minibus with a driver is the flat rate that gets cheaper with every seat you fill, plus a local professional handling the roads, the parking and the timing. That's why every wedding planner, golf organiser and cruise group on the island books it this way.
The fair caveat: for two or three people, a minibus is overkill — a private car does the job for less, and we'll say so and quote you the car. The minibus wins from around six people, and wins bigger from ten.
Questions, answered straight
Minibus hire Mauritius — FAQs
Is this self-drive minibus rental?
No — every hire includes a professional, PSV-licensed local driver. You get the vehicle and the chauffeur; you never touch the wheel.
How much does minibus hire cost in Mauritius?
Per vehicle, fixed in advance: airport transfers from about Rs 3,500 (~€70); half-day hire from Rs 5,500; full-day island hire from Rs 7,500, rising with vehicle size (22-seaters roughly Rs 15,500–22,500 for a full day). Fuel, driver, tolls and taxes included.
How many people fit in one minibus?
7 to 15 in our minibuses, up to 22 in the mini-coach and 33 in the full bus. Tell us headcount and luggage and we'll size it — free upgrades when a larger vehicle is available. Not sure which size fits your group? Honest capacities for every class are on our vehicles page.
Do you provide child seats in minibuses?
Yes — every child seat is free, fitted before pickup. Give us ages when you book.
Can we hire the minibus for a full day with our own itinerary?
Yes — that's day hire: the vehicle and driver at your disposal, your stops, your pace. If you'd rather a guided sightseeing day, our private group tours add a driver-guide.
How far ahead should groups book?
A few days is usually fine; in high season (November–April) book the moment your dates are fixed — the right-sized vehicles go first, especially around cruise calls and weddings.
