Minibus day hire Mauritius: a minibus with driver at your disposal for the day
Private day hire · your itinerary, our wheels · since 1998
Quick answer: minibus day hire puts a minibus and professional driver at your group's disposal for a half or full day, anywhere in Mauritius — your itinerary, your stops, your timing. Half-day (up to ~5 hours) from Rs 5,500; full-day (up to ~10 hours) from Rs 7,500; larger coaches Rs 15,500–22,500 — per vehicle, all-inclusive (driver, fuel, tolls, parking). It's the format behind wedding-guest shuttles, self-planned island days, shopping runs, sports-team fixtures and cruise days ashore. Not sure whether you want just wheels or a guided day? Wheels-only is this page; guided sightseeing with a driver-guide is our private group tours. Send your date, headcount and rough plan on WhatsApp for a fixed quote.

What "at your disposal" actually means
For the booked hours, the minibus and driver are yours: leave when you like, stop where you like, change the plan at lunch. The driver handles the roads, the parking and the timing maths ("if you want the beach before sunset, we leave the market by 3"). You handle nothing.
The classic day-hire jobs:
Your own island day — you've read the blogs, you have the list: we drive it, your order, your pace. (Want the stories and the planning done for you instead? That's a guided group tour.)
Wedding & event shuttles — guests moved between hotel, ceremony and reception on your run sheet; multiple rotations, one flat rate.
Cruise days ashore — the vehicle meets the ship, runs your shore plan, and delivers you back with a buffer before all-aboard — see cruise group transport.
Sports teams & clubs — fixtures, tournaments and kit, moved as one unit on standing rates.
Shopping & errand days — Bagatelle, Caudan, the markets: the boot fills, nobody carries.
Golf days — tee-time drop, 19th-hole pickup, bags handled — golf groups have their own page: golf-bag transfers.
Vehicle sizes: up to 6 (executive minivan) · 7–10 (high-roof) · 11–15 (maxi) · 16–22 (mini-coach) · 23–33 (bus, via charter bus hire). Child seats free in every size.
Day-hire rates, honestly
Half-day (~5 hours): from Rs 5,500 per vehicle, rising with size
Full-day (~10 hours): from Rs 7,500 per vehicle; maxi and coach sizes Rs 15,500–22,500
Multi-day / weekly: standing daily rates, quoted once, held all stay
Included: driver, fuel, tolls, parking, waiting — the quote is the bill; no meter, no hourly anxiety
Extra hours: agreed transparently on the day if your plan runs long — the driver tells you the number before you decide, never after

The day-hire maths
~10 hours — A full day at your disposal, for less than many pay for two long taxi runs
Rs 5,500 / 7,500 — The half-day and full-day starting points, per vehicle, everything included
÷ 10 — The flat rate split across a full minibus: chauffeured travel at bus-ticket money per head
0 — Meters running while you swim, shop or linger over lunch — waiting is included
1 driver — Who learns your group by mid-morning and has the AC cold before you're back to the vehicle
7–33 — Seats available, sized to your crew in one message
The honest takeaway: day hire is the format Mauritians themselves use for weddings and family outings — the tourist version is identical, just less discovered. It beats stringing taxis together the moment your day has more than two stops.

Case study
A villa group's DIY south day — their list, our wheels
Guests: eight friends in a Tamarin villa · Brief: "we've made our own itinerary — we just need someone to drive it"
They didn't want a tour — they'd built their own plan from blogs and a cousin's tips: a viewpoint, a rum shack, a beach nobody names, lunch at a place with no sign. What they needed was a high-roof minibus, a driver who knew the no-sign place anyway, and nobody watching a meter while they swam.
Full-day hire, one fixed rate, eight ways. The driver added one stop of his own ("if you liked that viewpoint, give me ten minutes") that became the photo of the trip. Home at dusk, plan executed, no navigation arguments.
8 friends, 1 rate — Full day, split eight ways Their itinerary — Driven exactly, plus one driver's bonus stop 0 meters, 0 taxi negotiations, 0 designated drivers 5★ — "our plan, executed better than we planned it"
First-hand reviews
In our guests' own words
★★★★★ "Hired the minibus for our wedding guests — four hotel-to-venue rotations, flawless, one price agreed weeks before." — S., United Kingdom (via Google)
★★★★★ "We planned our own day and just needed wheels. Driver was brilliant — never rushed us, knew every shortcut, cold AC waiting after the beach." — C., France (via TripAdvisor)
★★★★★ "Cruise stop with 12 of us: our own shore plan, back at the ship with an hour spare. Cheaper per person than the ship's excursion by a distance." — K., Germany (via Google)
A contrarian view
You don't always need a tour. Sometimes you just need the bus.
The tourism industry sells days in one shape: the tour — itinerary included, commentary included, price marked up accordingly. But plenty of groups don't want their day designed; they've designed it themselves. What they're forced to buy is a tour anyway, because "just the vehicle and a good driver, all day" barely gets advertised.
Half the groups buying tours only wanted the transport. Day hire is the product the brochure forgot.
We sell both, so the steer is honest: if you want the island explained — the history at the sacred lake, the right order for the south — take the guided group tour; the guide earns their money. If you've done the homework and want your own day driven brilliantly, day hire is the same wheels for less, with a driver whose local knowledge comes free at the lunch stop anyway.
The fair caveat: first visit, no plan, limited time? The guided tour genuinely extracts more from your day — we'll say so when you ask.
Questions, answered straight
Minibus day hire — FAQs
How much is minibus hire for a day in Mauritius?
Half-day (~5 hours) from Rs 5,500; full-day (~10 hours) from Rs 7,500 per vehicle, all-inclusive — driver, fuel, tolls, parking, waiting. Larger coaches Rs 15,500–22,500. One flat rate for the whole group. Travelling as 7 or fewer? A standard Mauritius taxi tour from €80 per vehicle will usually beat minibus rates.
Is this a guided tour?
No — it's the vehicle and driver at your disposal for your own itinerary. If you want a driver-guide and a designed sightseeing day, that's our private group tours.
Can the driver suggest stops?
Happily — local knowledge is included, imposed never. Your plan leads; the driver adds only what you invite.
Can we hire for several days or a whole week?
Yes — standing daily rates for the stay: airport in, your days out, airport out, one thread, one driver.
What if our day runs longer than booked?
The driver tells you the transparent extra-hour rate before you decide — never a surprise after.
Do you do wedding-guest shuttles?
It's one of our most-booked day-hire jobs: rotations between hotel, ceremony and reception on your run sheet, one flat rate for the day.
