Port Louis Cruise Disembarkation With an Evening Flight
Finishing your cruise in Port Louis and flying home later that day? You can arrange a private pickup, spend part of the day sightseeing with your luggage in the vehicle, then continue to Mauritius Airport. The itinerary depends on when you can leave the terminal and when your airline requires you at the airport.
Direct airport transfers start from €50-€60 per SUV. Minibus transfers range from €70 to €90, depending on the transport required. Prices are per vehicle for a one-way journey.
A sightseeing itinerary with cruise pickup, waiting time and airport drop-off is priced separately according to the route, vehicle and hours. We confirm the complete amount before you book.
Barefoot Transfers Mauritius is a local, family-run business. We help you make practical use of your final day, with enough space for your bags and a route planned around your departure.
Start with your disembarkation time, not the ship’s arrival time
A ship arriving at 7:00 does not necessarily mean you will be ready for pickup at 7:00.
Before choosing a collection time, check the disembarkation instructions issued by your cruise line. Allow for your assigned departure slot, collecting your luggage and completing the terminal formalities.
Send us:
Your ship’s name and disembarkation date.
Your expected time outside the terminal.
Your flight number and departure time.
The number of passengers and bags.
Any sightseeing you would like to include.
If your cruise line changes your departure slot, let us know so we can reassess the pickup and sightseeing time.
Check whether your cruise package already includes an airport transfer. If it does, compare its collection time with your plans before booking separate transport.
Where will we meet after leaving the ship?
The Mauritius Ports Authority identifies the Christian Decotter Cruise Terminal at Les Salines as the main disembarkation location for cruise passengers. Check the terminal shown in your own cruise documents.
We confirm the meeting point for your booking according to the terminal and vehicle access arrangements. Keep the collection instructions available on your phone.
Do not assume your driver can wait beside the ship or enter the luggage collection area. If your cruise line gives you different exit instructions, contact us before walking elsewhere with your suitcases.
How much time is available for sightseeing?
Work backwards from the time you need to reach the airport.
Air Mauritius recommends checking in at its counter at least three hours before departure. Follow your own airline’s instructions, including any earlier reporting time for assistance or special baggage.
Your available time must cover:
Driving between the cruise terminal, sightseeing stops and airport.
Visits, lunch and comfort breaks.
Collecting everyone after each stop.
A margin for traffic and unexpected delays.
Illustrative example: If your flight departs at 20:00 and you plan to reach the airport at 17:00, a 10:00 terminal pickup gives you seven hours for the complete journey. That includes all driving, stops and the traffic allowance.
If the final drive is estimated at 75 minutes and you reserve another 30 minutes for delays, you would leave your final stop by 15:15. These figures illustrate the calculation; the actual departure time depends on your route and conditions.
Our guide to airport departure pickup times explains how to plan the road journey around your flight.
Two ways to spend the time before your flight
A shorter visit around Port Louis
If you prefer a gentle final morning, keep the sightseeing close to your starting point.
A visit to Le Caudan Waterfront can provide time for a walk, shopping or a meal before continuing to the airport. The waterfront has cafés, restaurants and shops, so you can choose how much activity suits your group.
This option works well when you want one manageable stop rather than a long sightseeing circuit. Agree on the collection point and departure time before leaving the vehicle.
Your transport price must include the stop and waiting time. Meals and purchases are paid separately.
An inland route with a visit to Grand Bassin
With a longer window, an itinerary through the centre of the island can include Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao. This sacred lake and Hindu pilgrimage site offers a different experience from the waterfront.
Plan a small number of stops and a lunch break before continuing towards the airport. The route should suit your walking preferences, the weather and the time available after disembarkation.
Grand Bassin is a place of worship. Dress respectfully and follow any instructions at the temples.
These are starting points for a personalised itinerary. We confirm the complete transport price once the stops and hours are agreed.
Can we visit Chamarel or the north before flying?
Possibly, but an evening flight alone does not tell us whether a longer route will fit.
We also need your actual terminal pickup time, the stops you want and your airport arrival target. A route with several attractions, lunch and long drives can use the available day quickly.
Choose your most important visit first. Additional stops can then be assessed around it.
If disembarkation is delayed, the practical adjustment is to shorten the sightseeing. Keeping every planned stop should not take priority over reaching the airport.
What happens to our luggage during the tour?
Your bags travel in the booked vehicle between the cruise terminal, sightseeing stops and airport.
Tell us the number of large suitcases, cabin bags and any bulky items before booking. Passenger seats alone do not determine whether a vehicle is suitable.
For example, four adults with four large suitcases may need a different arrangement from four adults travelling with small cabin bags. Mention folding wheelchairs, pushchairs and golf bags separately.
Our private minibus service in Mauritius explains the arrangements for groups and larger luggage loads.
Keep passports, medication, money and essential travel documents with you during stops. Pack anything you may need during the day in an accessible small bag.
Do not plan to leave your luggage at the airport and return to sightseeing. The airport terminal operator currently lists luggage storage as unavailable.
What does the price cover?
For a direct cruise-terminal pickup and airport drop-off:
SUV: from €50-€60 per vehicle.
Minibus: €70 to €90 per vehicle.
These are one-way transfer prices. They do not include a sightseeing circuit or several hours of waiting.
For a personalised departure-day tour, we confirm one total covering the agreed pickup, vehicle, driving, waiting time, stops and airport drop-off. Any separate entrance tickets, meals or booked activities are identified when planning the day.
Our standard private driver service starts from €100 per vehicle for around 7 to 8 hours and up to four passengers. Airport journeys are not automatically included in that rate, so a combined cruise tour and airport transfer needs its own complete price.
Frequently asked questions
Can we go directly to the airport if we are tired?
Yes. You can book a direct transfer from the outset. If you have already booked sightseeing and want to change the arrangement, contact us so we can confirm the revised service and any price implications.
What if disembarkation takes longer than expected?
Tell us as soon as you receive an update. We reassess the available time and may shorten or remove stops. Any change affecting the booking arrangements or price is discussed with you.
Can our group travel together if we have different flights?
Yes, if the vehicle and schedule suit everyone. A shared airport arrival should be planned around the earliest flight’s requirements.
If some passengers want to continue sightseeing after others leave, separate transport or an additional journey may be needed.
Can we shower or use a hotel room before flying?
A shower, day room or hotel day pass must be arranged separately with the property. Confirm availability, access hours and the price before including it in the transport itinerary.
A restaurant reservation does not automatically include access to hotel rooms, showers or leisure facilities.
Does checking in online give us more sightseeing time?
Online check-in does not remove baggage-drop deadlines or the time needed for security and departure formalities. Keep the airport arrival time based on your airline’s guidance.
Is this suitable if we must return to the cruise ship?
This arrangement finishes at the airport after your cruise ends. If you are visiting Mauritius during a port call and returning to the ship, your tour must instead be planned around the ship’s all-aboard time.
