Our private Chamarel tour in Mauritius combines Chamarel Waterfall, Seven Coloured Earth and time for lunch, with the option to add Rhumerie de Chamarel or an Ebony Forest experience. Travel with your own driver and an air-conditioned vehicle, with collection and return to your accommodation.

What does the Chamarel tour include?

Your booking includes:

Your day in Chamarel

Collection from your accommodation

Your driver collects you at the agreed time. We plan the route according to where you are staying and any activity bookings.

An early start may be useful when travelling from the north or east. We confirm this before booking, especially if you have a particular return time.

Chamarel Waterfall and Seven Coloured Earth

Visit the waterfall viewpoints, then continue to the coloured earth and tortoise park. Allow around one to two hours as a planning guide, depending on your pace.

The Geopark entrance ticket covers these three attractions. Ebony Forest requires a separate ticket.

You explore the designated paths and viewing areas. The waterfall stop is a viewpoint visit; a descent to its base requires a separately arranged guided activity.

Lunch in the Chamarel area

Leave time for lunch between visits. Tell us whether you prefer a quick meal or a longer restaurant stop, along with any dietary requirements.

Lunch is paid separately, so you can choose according to your preferences and budget. If you have a particular restaurant in mind, mention it when requesting your itinerary.

Your chosen optional activity

A practical starting point is the waterfall, coloured earth, lunch and one additional experience.

Choose a distillery visit, a forest activity or more time at the main attractions. We check how your choice fits with the driving time and opening arrangements.

Return to your accommodation

The return journey forms part of the agreed tour duration. If you need to be back for dinner, another booking or a family commitment, tell us before we finalise the route.

Add Rhumerie de Chamarel

Rhumerie de Chamarel offers guided visits introducing its rum-making process, with tasting available as part of the attraction’s visitor programme.

Its standard visits currently operate Monday to Saturday. The Rhumerie is closed on Sundays, so a Sunday Chamarel itinerary needs a different optional stop.

Admission is separate from your transport price. A private distillery visit requires its own reservation and is not automatically included with a private vehicle.

If seeing production in operation matters to you, mention this when enquiring so the programme can be checked for your date.

Add an Ebony Forest experience

Ebony Forest offers several ways to discover its conservation work and native habitats. Choose the experience before we arrange the day, because visit lengths vary considerably.

The short Green Loop is a guided walk beside the visitor centre lasting approximately 25 minutes. The guided trek is a much larger commitment, taking around 3 to 4 hours.

A longer forest experience may need to take place first and replace other optional stops. We build the itinerary around its starting time and the walking involved.

Ebony Forest admission and any guided activity charges are separate. Tell us your preferred walking duration and any access requirements when enquiring.

How much does a private Chamarel tour cost?

Private transport starts from €100 per vehicle for up to four passengers.

We confirm the final amount after checking:

• Your accommodation and pickup location.

• The number of adults and children.

• Your chosen attractions and activity times.

• The vehicle and any space needed for a stroller or mobility equipment.

• Your preferred return time.

Larger families and groups receive a vehicle-specific quote.

Entrance fees are additional to the transport price. This lets you choose the visits you want without paying for an attraction you intend to skip.

Practical information before booking

Walking and accessibility

The Geopark has uneven basalt paths that may be difficult for visitors with reduced mobility. Forest activities have their own walking requirements.

Tell us about wheelchair use, difficulty with steps or limited walking tolerance before booking so we can check suitable options.

Travelling with children

Send us the children’s ages and request any infant seat, toddler seat or booster when enquiring.

Let us know if you need space for a stroller. We can also allow for a shorter lunch, breaks or fewer activities when planning your day.

What to bring

Bring comfortable shoes, drinking water, sun protection and a light rain jacket. For a longer forest activity, follow the attraction’s clothing and footwear guidance.

Paying for your tour and tickets

Pay your driver in cash at the end of the tour in euros, pounds sterling, Mauritian rupees or US dollars. There is no card terminal in the vehicle.

Attractions have their own payment arrangements. The Chamarel Geopark accepts Mauritian rupees in cash and debit or credit cards, but does not accept foreign cash.

Frequently asked questions

Can we visit Chamarel on a Sunday?

Yes. The Seven Coloured Earth Geopark opens on Sundays. Rhumerie de Chamarel is closed, so we plan the optional part of your day accordingly.

Can we include both the Rhumerie and Ebony Forest?

Possibly, depending on your pickup location and the Ebony Forest experience you choose. A short activity offers more flexibility than a trek lasting several hours.

Is Seven Coloured Earth the same as La Vallée des Couleurs?

No. These are separate attractions. Chamarel is home to Seven Coloured Earth, while La Vallée des Couleurs, now branded Vallé, is associated with the 23-coloured earth and adventure activities.

Can we change the stops during the day?

Ask your driver if you would like an adjustment. Changes depend on the remaining time, attraction availability and any reservations already made. Extra driving or a longer day may affect the price.

Can we visit Chamarel while changing hotels?

Yes. If you are moving from Belle Mare or Palmar to Le Morne, you can arrange a hotel transfer with Chamarel sightseeing stops. Your luggage travels in the booked vehicle, and the journey finishes at your new hotel. The complete route, waiting time and transport price are agreed before booking.
