Mauritius Private Tours With Limited Walking
You can enjoy a private tour of Mauritius with fewer walking stops, time to sit down and a route built around the places you most want to see. Private day tours start from €100 per vehicle for up to four passengers, with around 7 to 8 hours including driving, visits and breaks.
Barefoot Transfers Mauritius can plan a museum visit, coastal outing or selected scenic stops around your walking preferences. Tell us whether you need short distances, fewer steps or space for a folding mobility aid so we can check the proposed vehicle and visits before booking.
What does a private tour cost?
Private day tour: from €100 per vehicle for up to four passengers.
The transport price includes:
Hotel pickup and return at the agreed location.
A private, air-conditioned vehicle.
An English- or French-speaking driver.
Fuel and parking for the agreed route.
Driver waiting during your visits and breaks, within the booked hours.
Attraction tickets, lunch and separately booked guides are additional. The adult admission prices for the places discussed below are shown alongside each visit.
Your exact transport fare depends on your pickup location, route and vehicle requirements. We confirm it when you book. Larger vehicles and extended or personalised itineraries are priced separately.
Our Mauritius private driver service explains the included hours and transport arrangements.
How we plan a day with less walking
A comfortable day starts with choosing fewer places and allowing enough time at each one.
Tell us how long you comfortably walk before needing a seated break. Also mention whether stairs, slopes, uneven ground or standing in queues are difficult.
We can then plan around:
One main attraction rather than several lengthy visits.
Short, optional sightseeing stops.
Time for lunch and seated breaks.
Vehicle transfers between separate attractions.
A return time that suits your energy and other plans.
Your hotel location matters too. A nearby outing can leave more time for visits and rest than a day crossing several regions.
Attractions to consider
The places below offer different experiences and access conditions. Choose them according to what you enjoy and the amount of walking that suits you.
Admission prices shown are published adult rates for non-resident visitors, checked in October 2026. Tickets are separate from your private transport.
Odysseo Oceanarium: indoor sightseeing in Port Louis
Adult admission: MUR 1,280 per person.
Odysseo publishes wheelchair-friendly facilities and barrier-free access for visitors with reduced mobility.
It can be a useful choice if you would enjoy marine life and prefer an indoor attraction. There is still a visitor route to cover, so allow time to move through the displays at your own pace.
If you use a wheelchair or need particular toilet or resting facilities, mention this when booking so the relevant arrangements can be checked.
A visit followed by lunch can form the main part of your outing. You do not need to add a long city walking tour afterwards.
L’Aventure du Sucre: history with a flexible visit length
Adult admission: MUR 1,200 per person.
L’Aventure du Sucre explains Mauritius’s history through its sugar industry. The operator says most parts of the museum accommodate visitors with reduced mobility, and a wheelchair is available on request.
You can focus on the exhibits that interest you and take a break rather than trying to cover every display.
The museum currently opens Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 16:00, with additional holiday closures. If you need its wheelchair, check availability ahead of your visit.
This can be the main attraction of an adapted North Mauritius tour, with lunch and an optional coastal stop.
Ebony Forest Green Loop: a short nature experience
Adult admission: MUR 300 per person.
Ebony Forest describes its Green Loop as a 250-metre guided route lasting approximately 25 minutes, beside the Visitor Centre, with around one metre of elevation change.
This gives you a useful distance to consider before deciding whether the visit suits you.
The operator identifies the Visitor Centre as accessible to wheelchair users. Access to the complete loop should be checked for your individual requirements.
Choose this specific experience if a short nature visit appeals to you. Other Ebony Forest activities involve different distances, terrain and steps.
Chamarel: vehicle access between stops, with uneven paths
Adult Geopark admission: MUR 800 per person.
The Geopark ticket includes the Chamarel Waterfall viewpoints, Seven Coloured Earth and tortoise park.
Cars and minibuses can enter, with separate parking near the waterfall viewpoint and the coloured earth. You can therefore travel between these areas by vehicle.
However, the operator warns that basalt-rock paths can be challenging for visitors with reduced mobility. Parking nearby does not establish that the whole visit is step-free or suitable for every wheelchair user.
If uneven surfaces are difficult, check the intended viewing areas before choosing this stop. The standard visit is to the viewpoints, with no hike down to the waterfall.
Our South Mauritius tour shows the wider sightseeing route. For a day with less walking, select the suitable stops rather than including the entire circuit.
Two ways to organise your day
A museum visit with lunch and an optional coastal stop
For guests staying in the north or northwest, L’Aventure du Sucre can be the main visit.
Leave time for lunch and decide whether you would like a short coastal stop afterwards. We check the proposed stopping point and walking requirements before adding it.
There is no need to combine the museum with a full botanical garden visit, a market walk and several beaches on the same day.
An oceanarium visit with a relaxed afternoon
Choose Odysseo as the main attraction, followed by lunch and an optional waterfront visit.
If walking between venues would be tiring, plan separate vehicle drop-offs where access permits. Your driver can collect you after the agreed visit, with the meeting point confirmed beforehand.
Either plan can be shortened within the booked day if you would prefer to return to your accommodation earlier.
What about viewpoints and jeep tours?
The name of an activity does not always describe how much walking it involves.
For example, Ebony Forest’s standard jeep experience, published at MUR 1,600 per non-resident adult, still includes approximately 500 metres of walking. Its Flycatcher raised walkway has 113 steps up and 142 down.
Macondé’s upper viewpoint also requires a narrow staircase. If stairs are unsuitable, leave the upper lookout out of your itinerary.
Tell us which particular place interests you. We can consider its actual approach, paths and steps before including it.
Choosing a vehicle you can board comfortably
The starting price is for a standard private vehicle.
Please tell us whether you can get into a normal vehicle seat, whether a high step is difficult and whether you travel with a folding wheelchair or walking frame.
If you bring mobility equipment, send its folded dimensions so we can assess storage space alongside the passengers.
Travelling with a wheelchair folded in the luggage area is different from remaining seated in it during transport. If you need a ramp, lift, wheelchair restraints or passenger lifting assistance, those requirements must be checked before a booking can be confirmed.
Rest stops, lunch and toilets
Let us know if regular seated breaks or particular toilet facilities are essential to your day.
We can plan lunch as part of the schedule and check the relevant facilities with the selected venue. A restaurant entrance and its toilets may have different access arrangements, so both matter.
If you prefer a slower morning, an earlier lunch or fewer times getting in and out of the vehicle, include that in your booking message.
Frequently asked questions
Can one person skip a walking stop?
Yes. Tell us which visits each person wants to join so we can agree on a suitable waiting place and meeting arrangement.
If someone needs continuous assistance, include this in the plan. A standard driver booking does not include a dedicated carer.
Can we bring a folding wheelchair?
Potentially, provided the passenger can use the proposed vehicle seat and the folded wheelchair fits. Send its dimensions before booking so we can confirm suitability.
Is a shorter visit possible?
Yes. You can choose fewer stops or return earlier within your booked day.
For a separate shorter booking, the price depends on the route and pickup location. It is not automatically half the full-day rate.
What happens if the weather changes?
We can review the stops and consider an indoor visit where opening hours and availability allow.
Wet paths or poor visibility may make a planned scenic stop less suitable. The day should remain comfortable rather than depend on completing every visit.
How do we pay?
Pay your driver in cash at the end of the tour. We accept euros, British pounds, Mauritian rupees and US dollars. Card payment is not available in the vehicle.
Attractions and restaurants have their own payment arrangements.
